Caylyn is the Mollys.ie Best Rescue 2009!

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Caylyn, the beautiful whippet/greyhound cross was crowned the Mollys.ie Best Rescue 2009 at Pet Expo in the RDS yesterday.

Caylyn

Poor Caylyn was taken in by North Wexford SPCA after being found at the side of the road. They initialy thought she had been hit by a car but the vet discovered she had actually been shot in the shoulder!

She now has a wonderful home with a loving family and is growing more confident all the time. She had a consultation with pet behaviourist Jim Stephens at the show who assured her loving owner Barbara that Caylyn was doing great.

Caylyn will be having a photo shoot for our new website in the next few weeks, we look forward to seeing her strut her stuff!

Bonnie
In second place was Bonnie, the beautiful and energetic “cappuchino terrier” from Navan who will be competing in the Dublin Marathon for charity this year! She also took part in the Dog Training Ireland agility displays over the weekend.

group with Poppy in Middle

Joint third place was awarded to Poppy the Yorkie cross, a gorgeous Dogs in Distress rescue (in the middle of the group picture in her owner Gwen’s arms) and Jake the ex DSPCA adorable shaggy bundle of energy we christened a beardy/black rug cross as we had no idea what breed he was!

Jake

Congratulations to all of our competitors and their loving owners, it was lovely to meet you and we hope you had as much fun as we did over the weekend. Thanks again for taking part and helping us to spread the word that rescues make great pets!

Monday, September 14th, 2009

*the Mollys.ie Best Rescue 2009*

*THE COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED TO NEW ENTRIES – THANK YOU*

Molly’s Pet Boutique and Pet Expo have teamed up to find the Mollys.ie Best Rescue!

petexpo09logo

Molly herself is a rescue dog, taken in 7 years ago by the kind people at limerick animal welfare before being adopted by Claire and going on to have her very own pet boutique and website named after her! The purpose of this competition is not only to reward the people who made the choice to adopt rather than buy, but also to highlight the fact that
rescue animals make great pets and that there are plenty of them looking for homes in rescue centres all over the country.

The winner of the Mollys.ie Best Rescue competition will get a fab prize from Mollys.ie and will be used as a model on the website!

Molly VIP Tag-1

If you think your rescued pet deserves to be the Mollys.ie Best Rescue, please email petexpo@mollys.ie with the following:

*Your name
*Your pets name, age and breed(s) if you know it!
*A little bit about your pet, where did he or she come from and how they ended up in rescue.
*Why you think your pet deserves to be the Mollys.ie best rescue.
*Some pictures, particularly before and after pictures to show any progress your pet has made since you adopted them.

NB: you and your pet would need to be available to attend Pet Expo on either the Friday, Saturday or sunday. If your pet is nervous around large crowds or loud environments, entry is not recommended. Only enter your pet if you know they will enjoy the spotlight!

Pet Expo will be back at the RDS this 9th to 11th October and it’s shaping up to be even more fun than last year! Tickets are available now from Ticketmaster.ie.

Hope to see you there!

Orijen Dog & Cat Food is Now Available from Mollys Pet Boutique!

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

We recieved our first delivery of Orijen today – exciting! Many of our customers are thriving on Arden Grange (which we will continue to carry both in store and online) but we had many requests for grain free food and also specifically for Orijen, so as usual, we are giving you what you want :)

Why Orijen?

Orijen dog and cat food is a “Biologically Appropriate” diet. It mirrors the foods and nutrients that cats & dogs would find hunting in the wild, while keeping in mind that today’s domestic pet gets regular meals handed to them and less exercise ;) so needs fewer calories.

The idea is to help cats & dogs achieve peak health by including the right ratio & quantity of fresh animal ingredients – the very protein-rich ingredients they’re anatomically evolved as carnivores to eat. Yes, dogs and cats are carnivores! They lack the digestive enzyme amylase that we humans (omnivores) have present in our saliva to break down carbohydrates, they also have short digestive tracts perfect for quickly digesting fat and protien from meat and fish.

High-carbohydrate ingredients, like cereal grains, don’t actually belong in the natural diet of cats & dogs so Orijen don’t include it. Instead it has a ratio of 70/30/0 – 70% meat, 30% fruit & vegetables… and no grains whatsoever.

What’s it made of?

According to their website – Orijen is “made from fresh regional ingredients include free-run chicken, turkey & ducks, whole Grade A eggs, free range wild boar, bison and heritage pork, grass-fed lamb, and a variety of wild-caught freshwater & saltwater fish—all sustainably farmed or fished locally, passed ‘fit for human consumption’ and delivered FRESH TO OUR DOOR. Each & every day!”

Sounds pretty good to us! The Glycemic Research Institute in Washington DC think so too, they have recently named Orijen their Pet Food of the Year 2009/2010.

Isn’t too much protein bad?

In a word, no. The peak health of our companion cats and dogs depends upon the quality proteins and fats they derive from meats – not from carbohydrates and grains. Good quality protein and fats will result in your pet being in peak health.

Hungry for more?

For more information on protein in your pets food, this study by the University of Pennsylvania veterinary department is worth a read.

Also check out this white paper explaining the fundemental differences between Orijen and other pet food brands.

The full Orijen dog & cat ranges are now available both instore and online at Mollys.ie, if you have any other questions that are not covered here, feel free to mail us or call us on 01-2805999.

New Dog & Cat Toys at Mollys.ie!

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

toys!

We’ve started unwrapping our new deliveries of toys for Autumn! We still have four more deliveries to come and with Orijen food coming on board next week too, we’re just hoping we don’t run out of space for everything! (Don’t worry, we’ll still be carrying Arden Grange as well!)

Our favorite new addition to the cat toy department is this innovative Slim Cat Treat Ball which encourages interactive play and weight management. And back by popular demand… our Laser Exerciser toy!

For the dogs, we’re now fully loaded down with a huge variety of plush toys, with even more on the way next week! Molly’s favorite so far is this obnoxious 31″ Gator with wait for it… SIXTEEN squeakers!!

We’ve also re-stocked our bestselling Cuz Balls & Tennis Ball Squeakers and have some great new floating water toys too.

Mollys brother Lucky was at the vet yesterday having some stitches out, so to cheer him up we took him to choose a new toy.

His eyes lit up when he saw this neoprene floating water squid toy and he spent about an hour running up and down the store playing with it.

It was so adorable I just had to share some of the footage we took, check it out!!

We’ll have lots more new additions coming over the next week or two so please check back soon!

Have a great bank holiday weekend,

Claire, Lucky & Molly

New Opening Hours

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Starting from tomorrow, our Dun Laoghaire boutique will be closed on sundays.

The boutique has been so busy lately and while we are obviously delighted, we are really missing spending quality time with our own animals :(

We surveyed our sunday customers over the last month or so to see what they thought. Interestingly the majority of people told us they would actually prefer a late opening evening instead of the sunday, so that is what we shall be doing. I’ll post later when we have confirmed the details of which day(s) we will be opening late.

In the meantime we are open monday to saturday and of course you can shop online 24/7 here on Mollys.ie

Have a great weekend,

Claire, Rob, Dave, Grainne, Molly & the gang x

Tattersalls & The European Winners Dog Show this bank holiday weekend!

Friday, May 29th, 2009

We will be attending the Tattersalls International Horse Trials this bank holiday weekend as part of a new addition to this great family event.

We will have a selection of our products for sale at the house; including dog and cat collars, pet treats, pet beds, dog and cat toys and more.

We will also be engraving beautiful brass horse saddle plates and bridle halter plates as well as our bestselling dog and cat pet ID tags.

Claire will be also giving a couple of talks in the seminar room. One on preparing for a new pet and what to expect as a first time pet owner and another on the top ten questions we get asked here in Mollys, so hopefully there will be some helpful hints and tips for pet owners.

There will be lots of other fun family activities going on as well including beauty treatments and lots more, we hope to see you there!

In other news, the best of luck to our staff members David and Koda who will be competing at the European Winners Dog Show at the RDS this weekend. From all of us at Mollys Pet Boutique, we know you’re going to do brilliantly, as always!
