The people at Volkswagen (or should that be Volks”waggin’”?!) have really outdone themselves with these clever commercials combining two of our favourite subjects – dogs and Star Wars!
First up, the “Bark Vader” teaser:

This is certainly a puppy toilet training method we haven’t come across before!
Poor Puglet!
Meet Jesse, the incredibly talented and well trained Jack Russell! Jesse was trained by his owner Heather using Positive Reinforcement and Clicker Training, as you can see a little encouragement and reward has gone a long way with this clever boy!
Positive Reinforcement means rewarding good behaviors (through treats, praise etc) and ignoring bad ones. It is a highly effective method of training and a really nice way to bond with your pet too.
Negative Reinforcement means punishment for bad behavior such as shouting at your dog, physically hurting your dog by hitting or with choke collars, rubbing your dog’s nose in faeces etc.
This outdated training method is bad news but sadly still widely passed on to new dog owners. If your “trainer” uses these methods, we strongly recommend finding a new one! If you are based in Dublin, Mollys recommends the excellent Dog Training Ireland in Blanchardstown.
Ok Go always make great videos but this one is extra great as it has dogs in it!
Even though it looks very tricky, basic obedience training (and a lot of patience!) is pretty much all that is needed to get started with your dog on a project like this. Once your dog can obey basic hand signals they can “dance”, notice how the dogs in the video are either looking at someone off camera for a cue or obeying a hand signal on camera. Aren’t dogs smart?
We can’t guarantee your music video will look this good, but if you would like to teach your dog a few tricks we have plenty of training treats to use as rewards for basic commands to start off with and interactive dog toys to stimulate their minds.
This clever dog is called Carrie and she is from Chile. She could teach me a thing or two on the dance floor!
Apart from her talent, we just love how she looks lovingly at her owner, they’re having a great time.
We love her little dog outfit too!
Many videos exist on the internet of dogs performing miraculous stunts, funny tricks and acts of bravery- this video however, is a truly shocking situation. Shocking not because it involves a human and their loyal pet but because it involves two random dogs and the true bravery, awareness and depth of sensitivity involved.
The video, filmed in Chile, shows a dog getting hit by a car on a busy motorway. Suddenly another random dog comes running along, risking its’ own life to pull the other incapacitated dog to safety. It’s truly heart-wrenching to see the two dogs struggling on the road while cars and trucks zoom past.
Dog Rescues Dog in Distress on Highway
Unfortuntely the injured dog died later that day and the hero dog ran away when road workers went to help. This dog definitely has the Mollys.ie stamp of approval! Many locals had offered to adopt the stray hero dog, however the authorities were unable to track him down.
This poor confused dog needs some toys to play with, right now!
!
.. well, sort of
He actually belongs to my dad but we’ve made him an honorary staff member so will be hanging out at Mollys lots!
His name is Mac and he’s an 11 week old German Shepard cross rescue from Dog’s Trust. He’s so gorgeous with a great personality, we’re shocked that somebody didn’t want him, just goes to show that its not just “bad” dogs that end up in rescue. He’s wearing our Mustard Lumberchic Hoodie in the top picture and looks like the slickest stud!
He’s made friends with some of our regular shoppers already, here he is tired after playing with Crackle and Pop, two adorable Maltese puppies who popped in for some new red harnesses and were more than happy to pose for the camera!
He also had a brilliant time playing chasing with Daisy, another Bichon who popped in to say hi
You can’t really see because of her lovely fluffy coat but Daisy is wearing our Lots of Love Puppy Collar.
He’s very high energy but has finally fallen asleep after a good run around with Dasheen, a fabulous Shiba Inu who loves to play:

Dasheen is wearing our Red Trim Reflective Harness.
After just three weeks, clever Mac has already learned to sit, give the paw and lay down – we have achieved this by using motivation and praise only, we never shout at him or hit him. His favorite rewards during training are Scallywags Treats and his Squeaky Bee Toys.
If you have a new puppy and would like to enroll in obedience classes, Dog Training Ireland are excellent.
Make sure first and for most to have fun with your new puppy, enjoy them!!
Well that’s all for Mac now we’ll keep you posted on how he grows up and the crazy antics I’m sure he’ll get up to!
I wouldn’t be a fan of this brand of dog food but the slow motion camera work in this ad is amazing.
It really captures the look of pure joy on the dog’s faces when they catch the kibble – it’s very sweet. Enjoy!
